Twilight actually did the same thing. Harry Potter is more of an adventure story, which was great for children when it started out and got them reading. Which then got their parents reading with them. But Twilight is that cheesy teen romance novel that got all these girls reading - girls who normally don’t read, mind you. I remember every girl in my grade read Twilight, even my best friend who hasn’t read a book since. It’s a shitty book, yeah, but it appealed to a different audience than HP, and deserves the same recognition for what it did. It opened up reading to a new group of people, starting its own revolution and starting a social interaction with it. Even people who hate it talk about it. 50 Shads of Gray did the same thing. The Hunger Games has also achieved this status recently. You can’t just recognize one series when so many have done the same thing.
